Every year 22,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and
within 5 years, 15,000 of them will die.
There is no reliable screening test for early detection of ovarian
cancer.
The Lowcountry Women with Wings Fund has been established by Terry
Scharstein, an ovarian cancer patient, in partnership with the Center
for Women.
Lowcountry Women with Wings will provide education and support services
to women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, their caregivers and families.
The Center for Women will offer programs on legal, financial and
family issues as well as individual counseling, support groups and
an ongoing network of current patients/survivors to assist each other. |
